Florence (pseudonym) is caring for her husband who is battling cancer. She said to me, “God has a she-shack waiting for me in heaven.”
“What’s a she-shack?” I asked.
“Jesus said that he is preparing a mansion for us. I told God to forget the mansion, that I wanted the equivalent of a man-cave….a she shack.”
John 14:2 says, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
The word, mansions, has been translated – dwelling places, many rooms, resting-places, abodes. No mention of a she-shack. But wouldn’t that be just like God…to reward Florence with her very own interpretation of peace and comfort.
St. Augustine wrote in his Confessions: “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”
God Himself can be our resting-place here on earth as we put one foot in front of the other; and on the other side where a beautiful she-shack awaits.
By the way, as Colton’s season of the Bachelor nears its tear-filled conclusion, I may ask God for a heavenly home more like the infamous Bachelor Mansion…..I am not a fan of she-shacks.
